iMaschine is a powerful digital instrument that can be used both for live playback and producing tracks. The interface is clean and simple yet hides a wide variety of advanced and customisable options.
- Main menu
- Start a new project;
- Open a saved project or template;
- Save the current project;
- Export the project as full project file or audio mix-down to the iTunes folder of the iPad or directly to SoundCloud;
- Rename the project by clicking the project’s name at the top of the screen.
- Activate and deactivate the metronome sound for playback and recording. The metronome sound is never being recorded into our track.
- Sample menu
- Choose o whole set of sounds that or assign individual samples to particular pads in the grid;
- Switch between purchased samples, user made samples, or access iTunes music library to create samples from music tracks.
- Using iMashine as a virtual instrument
- The right side of the screen consists of a 4 by 4 squares grid. Each of the squares is a pad triggering a music sample;
- Instead of using the grid, you can choose a keyboard or record our own sound using the iPad’s built in microphone. To do so, we need to long-press the blue track A, B, C, or D button beneath the grid;
- Short pressing one of the 4 track buttons will switch section. Each section can be assigned a different set of sounds;
- Save setup as a custom kit.
- Performance menu
- Set the default volume for pads;
- Change the volume of the sample currently being played;
- Live Play panel can be used to play back the sound of a loop with changing dynamics.
- Note repeat panel
- Switch between playback modes.
- Sample Editor
- Fine-tune the samples;
- If One Shot is ON, the sample is always being played back in full length;
- With the One Shot set to OFF, hitting playback again or letting go of a pad stops the sound;
- With Choke function ON, the playback of the sample will be ended when another sample, assigned to a different pad, is launched. Otherwise, the samples will be played back simultaneously;
- Pattern Edit
- Change the length of the recorded pattern;
- Mute selected pads;
- Undo changes and access editing history of the session.
- FX menu
- Choose between a variety of audio effects, including Chorus, Delay, Flanger, and more;
- Assign up to 2 effects to each track;
- Adjust the general volume of each track or mute it.
- To start recording, hit the record button on top of the screen. After a one bar count in, the recording starts.
